Newsletter

Hello Team Caulfield. We hope all our families enjoyed a well deserved rest over the Easter holiday break. Our 54th season saw 395 athletes register with the club, down slightly from last year but our second largest number of members in recent history.

Annual General Meeting & Presentation Day

Our Annual General Meeting & Presentation Day will take place on Sunday 21st April from 4:00pm. One very important item that’s always on the AGM agenda is the election of the new Caulfield Little Athletics Club Committee.

Each year the current committee is required to step down to allow the opportunity for new families to become more involved in the running of the club. We urge parents to consider how they can contribute in a way that best suits their family, this could include sharing a role with another parent. With 264 families registered at the club this year, we can have a committee bursting with the skills and talents to share the work load and have a lot of fun.

Please take the time to read the profiles of our current committee members here to learn how they became involved at the club and decided to join the committee and why it has been a positive experience for them.

Season Photos

We’ll be putting together a photo presentation of season highlights for Presentation Day. Please send your photos through to media@caulfieldlittleaths.org.au.

Help With Trophies

We are looking for some parents who would be keen to assist with organising the trophy order for Presentation Day. If you would like to know more about what is involved please email our Competition Director Sheridan English at competition@caulfieldlittleaths.org.au.

Winter Training – Commences Monday 22nd April

All athletes (U6-U17) who registered and paid for the Summer Season are encouraged to continue training over the winter months. You are able to participate in weekly winter training at no extra cost. Winter training is held on Mondays from 5:00pm-6:00pm. Training takes place at Duncan Mackinnon on the grassed area near the netball courts.

We are also finalising details to allow us to offer ongoing training in track and field events over winter on Wednesday nights. Interested athletes would pay $10 cash per session to the coach. A minimum of 5 athletes would need to be booked in for the session to go ahead. Sprints would be offered each week along with a jump and throw session. We’ll send out a further email about this in due course.

Bayside Cross Country

Commences Saturday 27th April. All registered Caulfield athletes are encouraged to sign up to Bayside Cross Country when registrations open. This is a fabulous way to stay fit especially if your children play winter sport like soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse, netball or want to continue their fitness in preparation for next season. Request to join the Bayside Cross Country group on Team App to stay up to date with information about the upcoming season.

School Sport Victoria Team Vic Program

Registrations are open for athletes aged 10 to 12 who are interested in trying out for Team Vic to represent Victoria at the School Sports Australia Track & Field Championships being held in Sydney later in the year. The trial date is Monday 16th September. Click here for more information.

All parents will be asked to assist throughout the day, with assistance required with the hurdles first thing, and again at around 11am, as well as with pack up which we’ll try to tackle progressively from 11am.

  • Any parents who signed up last Saturday to help as Presentation Assistants, Results Runners or Track Marshalls, could you please email our registrar Claire at registrar@caulfieldlittleaths.org.au ASAP.

Presentations
We will be asking AGMs to try to hold Presentations throughout the morning, but ask for everyone’s patience as this is the most difficult part of the day, often with a backlog to get through towards the end of the day. We are all volunteers and will get through all groups as quickly as possible. For any children unable to stay for their medal presentation, these will be held and given out at Presentation Day on 21st April.

Newsletter – Competition Week 16

Hello Team Caulfield. This week we are running a Makeup Program to try to even up the number of times each age group has completed each event, while trying to avoid groups doing the same two field events as they did in Program D during Week 15.

This Saturday we have a few parents away who have regularly helped each week to:

  • supervise the setup of the canteen/BBQ
  • act as Track Marshalls to organise the athletes on the back straight.

We are putting a call out to parents who aren’t rostered on duty this week to put up their hands to assist in these areas. Please email our President, Andrew, if you can assist.

There’s a lot more news to share, so please read through to the end!

State Championships Wrap Up
A huge congratulations to all 76 CLAC athletes who competed in very hot conditions last weekend. We saw countless PB’s broken, as well as 3 Victorian Records on the weekend. Our athletes brought home a record 36 medals with 13 Gold, 11 Silver & 12 Bronze plus 45 top 8 places.

Centre Championships Are Next Week
Athletes must be registered to compete!

Event registration is done via your Results HQ account. Due to the complexity of offering every event and the recording sheets needing to be pre-prepared to accept results, unfortunately we cannot cater for late entries on the day. The registration portal will remain open until 10pm on Monday 18th March. If you have not already done so, please go in and register your child to compete by selecting their chosen events. Please remember to nominate no more than 2 events in each category (Sprints, Track/Distance, Jumps & Throws). Instructions on how to register can be found on our website

Athletes who do not register by the 18th will not be able to compete on the day. Centre Champs is a longer program than normal due to every event being on offer, as well as the numerous presentations that will be held throughout the day. Once entries have closed, we will optimise the program to be as condensed as possible, with age groups potentially being combined and events run together, but rest assured medals are awarded for each age group (i.e. children from different age groups do not compete against each other).

We do require all parents to lend a hand on the day, especially with pack up. A duty roster will be available for sign up this Saturday for roles other than age group managers/assistants.

We hope to see as many children as possible next week to cap off a great season!

If families have not completed their 50% duty quota, responded to an email from our registrar Claire or spoken to her or a Committee member about their situation, their child may also be unable to compete.

This Saturday is your remaining chance to boost your duty % if you are on the cusp so please jump in and help as we close out the season. And remember to sign in for duty so that your duty can be recorded.

Key Dates

  • Week 16 Competition: 16th March, Makeup Program, U8 & U11 Girls on Pack Up.
  • Monday 18th March: Entries close for Centre Championships.
  • Caulfield Centre Championships: 23rd March
  • Presentation Day & AGM: Sunday 21st April 4pm-6pm

Kind regards
CLAC Committee

SMR Track & Field Wrap
Last weekend we saw over 125 Caulfield athletes represent the club at the Southern Metro Region Track & Field Carnival here at Duncan Mackinnon. A huge thank you to all that helped out and performed duty – the meet could not run without your help.

It was a hot, but very successful weekend for the club, topping the medal tally with a huge 144 Medals (58 Gold, 37 Silver & 49 Bronze), and countless PB’s broken.

Congratulations to our 83 athletes who have progressed to the State Championships at Casey Fields on 9th/10th March. Click here for detailed information and the draft timetable.

Duty Requirements
With only 5 weeks of competition left, it is timely reminder to our families of duty requirements to ensure your child is eligible to compete at Centre Championships on March 23rd and be eligible for End of Season Club, Age Group or PB trophies. Key points are:

  • Each family must complete their duty role at a minimum of 50% of the meets that your child/children participate.
  • Each family (parent or guardian) MUST SIGN IN at the DUTY DESK every week they attend for duty prior to the start of competition otherwise duty attendance will not be recorded.
  • Parents with Under 6 “On Track” athletes in the family are not required to nominate for duty.

Centre Championships – Portal opening soon
As we enter the final few months of the season, preparations are underway for our Centre Championships which will close out the season on the 23rd March.

This is a highlight of the CLAC calendar, with all eligible athletes able to select their favourite events to compete in (up to a set max. for their age group) and compete for medals.

Event registration needs to be completed via your Results HQ account.

Further information will be shared next week, but get your children to start thinking about what events they’d like to compete in so you’re ready to go when the portal opens.

Could you please check to ensure you can access your athlete’s Results HQ account.

  • Results HQ website: https://www.resultshq.com.au
  • Use the email address that you use to receive emails from Caulfield Little Athletics.
  • If you don’t know your password, click on the “Trouble logging in?” link, enter your email address and you will be sent an email containing a reset password link.
  • If you can’t login and it returns you to the login page without an error message, you may need to try a different internet browser. Google Chrome is recommended.
  • Still can’t login? Try clicking on the Help button and use the option to submit a request to Timing Solutions.
  • Get no response from Timing Solutions? You will need to contact LAVic on 9960 8600 or email office@lavic.com.au for further assistance.

The only assistance Claire our Registrar can give you is to confirm the email address associated with your account.

Update to Presentation Day & AGM Date
At our recent committee meeting it was decided to move our Presentation Day & AGM to Sunday 21st April 4pm-6pm. Please update your diaries with this new date and time.

SMR Track & Field Information

A reminder that SMR Competitions are more strict with uniforms than our regular club competitions.

  • You must bring and wear your Commonwealth Bank registration patch.

Scratching
If your athlete will not be competing in their nominated event/s for whatever reason this weekend, please forward this information to Team Manager Natalie prior to the day if possible, either by email or text message. Newsletter – Twilight Christmas Break Up & Caulfield Gift

Hello Team Caulfield. We will be holding our annual Caulfield Gift and Christmas Party at Duncan Mackinnon this Friday 15th December 5:30pm-7:30pm

If you are coming along, for planning and catering purposes could you please register your attendance using this link.

There will be no formal events on the night, just heats and finals of the Gift and a bunch of fun activities for the kids to come and enjoy.

Remember to dress up in your Christmas outfits so you can spread some Christmas cheer.

Competition patches are still required.

The Gift is always a highlight on our calendar, with our handicapper last year doing a brilliant job with all 8 athletes in the final finishing within 0.6 secs, with the top 3 within 0.04! All athletes aged U6-U17 are encouraged to join in the fun and have a go.

Following the Gift, we will have a giant inflatable, face painting, popcorn, fairy floss and if he can make time in his busy schedule, Santa might pop in to say hello too!

For the first time, we will also be putting on pizzas to wrap up the evening before children competing at State Relays the following day head home for a good night’s sleep.

Drinks will be available for purchase from the canteen and the Ormond Ice Creamery van will be there selling ice creams as well.

Duty on the night

As we are just running the Gift, we ask for parents to pitch in to help where asked – this might be:

  • helping to organise athletes into heats for the Gift,
  • scanning athletes as they come over the finish line,
  • recording names of heat winners who progress to finals,
  • helping in the canteen to sell drinks,
  • helping to make fairy floss and popcorn,
  • helping to serve when the pizza arrives.

We would appreciate eveyrone’s help to pack up at the end of the night.

Remember: For planning and catering purposes could you please register your attendance using this link.

Jemima has since gone on to represent Australia many times since 2018, winning Silver at the recent World Championships in August 2023 and Gold at the last two Commonwealth Games amongst many other honours, including being the current Australian Women’s 20km Walk record holder, breaking the old record (which had stood for 18 years) in the last year. We look forward to cheering Jemima on as she represents Australia and goes for gold at the Paris Olympics next year!

Registrations for Winter Season
Registrations are now open. Click here to register. If you know of anyone who is currently not a Caulfield member and would like to participate in the Winter Season, they will need to register with Little Athletics Victoria and pay the $55 joining fee, on top of the $40 Bayside Cross Country fee.

Trial Athlete Offer
At Team Caulfield you’re invited to either:

-One (1) competition trial and one (1) training trial OR
-Two (2) competition trials

– free of charge – before committing to full membership. This gives everyone involved a good understanding of what Cross Country is all about and how the weekly events operate. Click here to register for our Trial Athlete Offer.

Winter Training
All athletes (U6-U17) who registered and paid for the Summer Season are encouraged to continue training over the winter months. You are able to participate in weekly winter training at no extra cost. Winter training is held on Mondays from 5:00pm-6:00pm with Coach Brian Schepisi. Training takes place at Duncan Mackinnon on the grassed area near the netball courts.

Bayside Cross Country
All registered Caulfield athletes are encouraged to sign up to Bayside Cross Country. This is a fabulous way to stay fit especially if your children play winter sport like soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse, netball or want to continue their fitness in preparation for next season. It also gives them the chance to hang out with their aths friends over winter and make new friends.

Click here to register for Bayside Cross Country.

Bayside Cross Country is an amalgamation of Brighton, Caulfield, Mentone, Moorabbin, Oakleigh, Sandringham and Springvale Little Athletics Centres.

Each Saturday competition is from 8:10am (walk the course) with races starting at 8:30am. Competition is usually over by 10:00am-10:30am. Athletes come and race and are then free to go home.

All levels of ability are strongly encouraged to participate. Just like track and field, the focus is on PBs, having fun and self improvement. In fact no one is left behind as there is an adult running at the front and back of the field.

Once per season you will be asked to do a duty for an hour or so when Caulfield is rostered on duty.

The venues include Bald Hill, Braeside Park, Hampton Foreshore and Westgate Park. The following events are offered:

U6 (Bald Hill, Braeside Park only): 500m

U7-U8: 1000m

U9-U10: 1500m

U11-U12: 2000m

U13+: 3000m

Click here to view the Season Calendar.

There is an additional cost of $40 to join Bayside Cross Country. This covers Saturday morning competition and a Presentation/Awards Night and Pizza Dinner. If you have a friend who is interested in coming along, they will need to pay the $55 LAVic joining fee on top of the $40 Bayside Cross Country Fee.

Uniform: Athletes are to run in their Caulfield singlet/Tshirt/crop top on race day with their competition patch. No patch, no results. Uniforms will be available for purchase on one of our Monday night training sessions.

Communication: To keep up with Bayside Cross Country, please add them to your Stack Team App. This is the main way that Bayside Cross Country will communicate with you.

Date: Saturday 22nd April
Time: 3:00pm sharp & aim to finish by 5:30pm
Venue: Duncan Mackinnon Reserve Function Room (Upstairs)

To streamline and speed up the presentation, trophies and awards will ONLY be given out to athletes who have RSVP’d by the 17th April.

Trophies will be available for collection after the Presentation Day (dates and times to be advised) if you are unable to make it.

All families whose children have qualified to receive a trophy have been contacted via email.

RSVP
To indicate your child’s attendance, please enter your RSVP via our portal which can be found here. You will need to log in using your LAVic login details.

Please ensure you list all children that will be attending on the day in the field provided to ensure their trophies are there waiting for them.

The Presentation will consist of:

  • Major club awards – PB champion, Centre Champions, Encouragement Awards, Glenhuntly Awards, Volunteer Awards, Centre Records and official thank you’s.
  • Annual General Meeting (20 minutes)
  • Age group champion awards (U6 to U17) and PB awards (All eligible athletes U7+ receive a PB trophy with the number of PBs achieved for the season)

To be eligible for centre awards, athletes must have competed in 50% of the available centre programs offered since their date of registration and have returned to the track after the Christmas break. Eligible U6 athletes who participate in the ‘On Track’ program receive a participation trophy. An explanation of our End of Season Awards and associated eligibility criteria can be found on our website for more information.

All families whose children have qualified to receive a trophy have been contacted via email.

If you have not received an email, and have any concerns about eligibility please contact the Competition Director Sheridan at – competition@caulfieldlittleaths.org.au

Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting is very important to the Centre. We will cover the season by the numbers, table a Special Resolution and committee appointments.

All committee members stand down at the AGM and a new committee is elected for the 2023/24 season.

As we have mentioned several times this season, we have many committee members whose children are in the older age groups and need to start to handover all their knowledge.

Think about how you can offer to help CLAC and come on board a fun team.  It’s a great committee and a fabulous way to meet new people. Handover and training will be provided.

Click here for the AGM page on our website which contains position descriptions for the various committee roles and the all important nomination form.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 22nd April at 3:00pm sharp upstairs in the function room of the Duncan Mackinnon Reserve pavilion.

Kind regards,
CLAC Committee

Good luck to all 133 Caulfield competitors who have registered to compete in various events over the weekend.

Natalie Nielsen, Alan Morris and Mark Langham are your Caulfield Team Managers over the weekend. Please make sure you check in with them upon arrival so they know you are there for your event.

Just a few reminders for the SMR competition:

Parking
Car parking will be at a premium as netball will also be happening within the Duncan Mackinnon precinct. Please allow adequate time for parking and getting into the venue.

Caulfield Tent
The Caulfield team tent will be located near the 100m start line on the front straight. When you arrive at the venue please check in with Team Managers – Natalie, Alan & Mark. BYO picnic rugs, blankets and chairs.

Uniforms
A reminder that SMR Competitions are more strict with uniforms than our regular club competitions.

  • You must bring and wear your Commonwealth Bank registration patch.
  • COLES patches are to be sewn onto your Caulfield singlet, t-shirt or crop top just above the LAVic logo on the right side.
  • Shorts must be navy blue (not black) – no logos or pockets.

Call Room
The Track Call Room will be located at the North Road end of the track. The Field Call Room will be located at the Oval end of the track near the 150m mark. The Track Call Room will open 30 minutes prior to an event and close 20 minutes prior to an event. Athletes for field events are to marshal at the Field Call Room 20 minutes prior to an event. Please double check with your Team Manager when you arrive and listen for announcements during the course of the day.

Scratching
If your athlete will not be competing in their nominated event/s for whatever reason this weekend, please forward this information to Team Manager Natalie prior to the day if possible, either by email or text message. Club Competition Week 2

Hello Team Caulfield. We had a great carnival like atmosphere last Saturday to kick off our season with well over 300 athletes taking to the track. Thank you to everyone for their patience as they signed in for duty and collected their competition patches.

Competition patches must be worn on competition days and kept for the whole season – please don’t throw them out.  A replacement patch can be given for a gold donation to the Royal Childrens Hospital.

Competition Week 2 – Saturday Oct 8

  • Warm up starts at 8:30am.
  • If you HAVE collected your child’s competition patch – please remember to sign in for duty.
  • If you HAVE NOT collected your child’s competition patch – you need to make sure you have nominated for duty first. You can do this online here. Then on Saturday morning you will need to report to the duty desk to sign in for that duty and you will be given your child’s patch after that.
  • Parents who only have a child in U6 On Track are not required to nominate for duty. If you have done so, please see our duty coordinator Andrew at some stage during the morning and he will fix this up.
  • Under 6 (On Track) starts at 9:00am sharp.
  • BBQ & Canteen available.
  • Coffee cart will be available from 8:00am.

Little Athletics is all about fun, fitness, family and at Team Caulfield we add participation. We want to see all of our children having fun, making friends, improving their fitness and foundational skills of running, jumping and throwing. Little Athletics is not about being the fastest or strongest, it is about doing your best and continually improving week on week.

Team Caulfield details

  • $200 to join for the season. Also budget $35 for a running top if you are a new athlete.
  • Little Athletics is covered by the Victorian Government Get Active Kids Vouchers which are open from 21 September – 30 November 2022 for individual application of $200 grants – How to apply | Get Active Victoria
  • Training – Team Caulfield offer the best little Aths training in the state and do so at no extra cost to our members. Training is fully optional. This season training will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights –5:30pm to 6:30pm starting Monday October 3.
  • Competitions are generally held on a Saturday morning, with an arrival time of 8.15am for warm up, a program start time of 8:30am and a finish at 11:00am. We will have some fun Friday night competitions on long weekends this season too.
  • Team Caulfield also offer the wonderful On Track program which provides a framework for our 5 and 6 year old athletes. This has become hugely popular. Our On Track offering includes optional training Monday and Wednesday nights and a shortened competition morning from 9:00am to 10:30am on Saturdays which is a mixture of fun and educational games and competitive events.
  • Inclusion Policy – Little Aths can be inclusive for all children. Team Caulfield are moving into our fifth year operating under our Inclusion Policy. If you have questions regarding levels of physical and mental ability then please contact our Inclusion Officer Sarah through email secretary@caulfieldlittleaths.org.au to see how we can work with you to ensure all children can participate and have fun at little aths.
  • Parents/Carers need to understand that they are an important part in keeping our sport moving forward. Parents are expected to do duty when required – at a minimum, 50% of the meets that your children participate at. It’s not scary, you don’t need to be an expert, and it’s actually great fun to be involved with the children.

If you’d like to know more, wish to lend a hand or have any questions please call our Registrar Claire – 0409 705 955 or email registrar@caulfieldlittleaths.org.au. We look forward to getting back on track with you soon.
